Ali Carter beat Jamie Burnett 10 – 7 in the 2010 Shanghai Masters final to win the second ranking title of his career. In a tighly fought match with Ali Carter’s highest break of 72 and James Burnett’s highest break of 52 it wasn’t until 8 frames to 7 until Ali Carter was able to build a lead and win the final.

The first prize for the event was £60,000 but Ali Carter will be equally pleased that the World Snooker ranking points gained in the tournament take him up to second place, just behind John Higgins who remains sidelined with a ban that ends in November. The Essex man will have been impressed with how James Burnett played throughout the tournament, albeit with a little bit of luck in the first round when Ronnie O’Sullivan dropped up due to personal issues. As runner up Burnett will take home £30,000 and the 34 year old Glaswegian will be delighted to have progressed further in a ranking event than he ever has done in his career. He’ll also move up to 29th in the World Snooker rankings.
