Ding Junhui Lifts The Masters Trophy

Ding Junhui beat Marco Fu 10-4 in the final of The Masters 2011. The Chinese Sensation took an early lead against Marco Fu and didn’t let Hong Kong’s Marco Fu back in the match through aggressive break building and some magnificent snooker’s. It marks the first time Ding Junhui has won The Masters after losing against Ronnie O’Sullivan four years previously.

Ding Junhui developed a 6-2 lead in the first session and was very much in control of the match. Marco Fu threatened to make a come back in the evening session winning the first two frames 73-1 and 94-5 to reduce the deficit to 6-4.

In the 11th frame Marco Fu had the chance to get within one frame of Ding Junhui but a superb snooker proved the undoing of Fu who missed the pink and found the pocket. The penalty points from potting the white and an easy pink and black were enough for Ding Junhui to steal the frame and regain a three frame lead at 7-3.

With Ding Junhui needing three frames to win the match and Marco Fu needing six a comeback looked ever more unlikely. Ding Junhui was able produce successive breaks of 95, 83 and 85 to clinch a considerable victory.

Marco Fu will be disappointed to have lost by such a margin after defeating Mark Allen and Stephen Maguire en route to the final but after Ding Junhui took the lead it never looked like he was going to turn the table. Had he won the 11th frame it might’ve been a different story and the pundits felt that had Marco Fu reduced to the decifit to one the game may have developed very differently. All credit to Ding Junhui though, he’s been magnificent throughout The Masters 2011 and thoroughly deserved to get his name on The Masters Tropy.
