Ronnie O’Sullivan put on a poor performance in the first round of The Masters against Mark Allen and crashed out of the competition 6-4.

Ronnie O’Sullivan will be disappointed by what was another below par performance by the former World number one. Fortunately, The Masters isn’t a ranking event so he’ll be at least sparred the possibility of a further slip in the rankings. Early signs in the match indicated is was going to be an enthralling encounter but mistakes started to slip into O’Sullivan’s game and by the mid-session interval he was already trailing 3-1.

O’Sullivan has been known to raise his game for the big events but the four times Masters champion looked out of sorts. Despite levelling the match at 4-4 O’Sullivan was unable to continue his run and dispatch his opponent like he would’ve in the past.

Mark Allen was able to produce a break of 8-7 to regain the lead at 5-4 and win the 10th frame to book his place in the quarter finals. Ronnie O’Sullivan’s form aside, Mark Allen deserved to progress in the event and is due a tournament win having racked up numerous semi-final appearance. With Mark Selby, John Higgins and Ronnie O’Sullivan all knocked out in the first round The Masters 2011 might be his tournament.
